If You Can Make it Now, You Can Make it Anytime

Since my last post, I have been seeing more and more articles about “leaving your company to start a business,” and “making a move from part-time ICON to full time ICON.” The idea of leaving a secure job for your own, uncertain business seemed somewhat counter-intuitive to me at first, but the more I am reading about it, the more it seems that if you play your cards right, now’s not a bad time to invest more into your own practice. (Caveat: I think the ideal situation is to invest more into your private practice while maintaining your existing job) but if you have recently left your company and are looking to grow your own practice as a sole means of income, now’s really not a bad time to be optimistic.

Most of the articles I’ve read have had similar recommendations - make sure you have enough money to get started and survive for a few months, make sure your product is something that people need during a recession, and make sure you double or triple-up on your marketing- but I have also found some good sources of encouragement for those of you who are already out there, and are looking to build up your practice in 2009.
