Just for fun, here is a teaser of an article I created (with the help of some type experts) exclusively for the issue. Enjoy - and if you haven’t signed up for the newsletter, make sure you do - it’s full of tips, community news, new articles, and special offers for ICONs.
TV Characters by MBTI® Type
All MBTI® types are not created equal when it comes to loving the tube. Using data from Snapshots of the 16 Types, we’ve outlined which types watch the most and least TV, and (just for fun) named television characters and catchphrases that personify all sixteen types.
ISTJ -
Who Tunes In: 69% of ISTJs report watching television in their leisure time
Who’s on TV: Seymour Skinner, The Simpsons

Like many other school principals on TV, Seymour Skinner displays quintessential ISTJ characteristics. He is thorough and dependable, takes pleasure in making everything orderly and organized, values traditions and loyalty, and has genuine concern for the quality of his students’ education. Unfortunately for Seymour, his efforts to maintain discipline are continually thwarted by inadequate resources, unconcerned teachers, and obnoxious students-specifically, Bart Simpson.
Catchphrases:
“Order, order.”
“I’m impressed with what you did in there, Bart. You testified for the Quimby boy even though it was putting your own head in a noose. Nevertheless, you did skip school.”
“What kind of parents would permit such a lapse in scalpal hygiene?”
“I have caught word that a child is using his imagination and I’ve come to put a stop to it.”
ESFJ -
Who Tunes In: 64% of ESFJs report watching television in their leisure time
Who’s on TV: Monica Geller, Friends

Monica is the warmhearted and conscientious ESFJ “Friend” who wants friends, family, harmony, and order in her environment. She can be somewhat obsessive in her efforts to establish cleanliness and regulation, which often leads to conflicts with some of the more unkempt roommates (such as Joey). Monica is known as the “mother hen” of the group and likes it when everyone works together, even when she is the only one who cares if things are done accurately and on time. Monica is extremely loyal, notices what her friends need in their day-to-day lives and tries to provide it, and hopes that she is appreciated for what she contributes.
Catchphrases:
“Rules help control the fun!”
“Honey . . . we’re not at a barn dance. You want to fold them (the napkins) like swans like I showed you at Christmas, remember?”
“Wait a minute, you stayed home all day playing Ms. Pac-man, while I was at work like some kind of chump?”
Didn’t see your type? Want to read more? Make sure you catch the rest of this story (and a lot more) in the next issue of ICONic Connections, deploying March 11th, 2009!
