ritaallen_smFor many of you just getting started with your private practice, the task of getting your name out and growing a client base can seem a little overwhelming. As you develop your expertise, finding outlets to share your knowledge and experience is a great way to gain business for yourself. One ICON who has done a great job of this is Rita B. Allen, the Founder and President of Rita B. Allen Associates. Rita started out with several years of Human Resource Management experience in the areas of employment, employee relations, organizational development, compensation, benefits, career counseling, and management development and served as Vice President of Marketing and Search Services with Gatti & Associates, a national search firm specializing in the search and placement of H.R. professionals. She currently is an adjunct faculty member of Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies.

As an independent consultant, Rita shares her knowledge in various publications and outlets, both as a way to help others like herself, and as a way to leverage her expertise to gain recognition and build clientele. She is a frequent speaker at local events and has been a participant in discussions on radio, television and newspaper on the topics of Leadership, Personal Branding, Work/Life Balance, Job Search Strategies, Networking, Talent Acquisition, Career Management, Human Resources as a Strategic Partner and various other human resources issues. She has also published several articles regarding leadership development, flexible work schedules, successful networking and career management, which have appeared in the Boston Globe, Boston Women’s Business Journal and NEHRA’s Insights Magazine.

Since I always love opportunities to recognize our successful ICONS, I wanted to share some of her published articles with you. As you read them, think about your own areas of expertise. Do you have some specialized knowledge or some insights you’ve gained through your years of experience you could share with a larger audience? Even if you are apprehensive about being published or booking speaking gigs, there’s no reason you can’t start your own blog, post articles to your  LinkedIn profile, or advertise a free/discounted seminar at nearby career center or unemployment office to get started gaining exposure for yourself.
