A Deeper Look at the MBTI® ThinkBox - E-Coaching
posted by agammy
Hi everyone - I will be taking a week to explore the Myers-Briggs® ThinkBox and discuss several of the features in this blog. Today’s entry discusses the e-coaching module, and how you can use it to help yourself and your clients grow.
Day 4: E-Coaching
One of the most unique features of the Myers-Briggs ThinkBox is the e-coaching module. E-coaching is a great way to learn about new techniques for strengthening a team and helping individuals develop who may be struggling in some specific area, and I am not surprised it’s been such a popular feature within ThinkBox.
Now, e-coaching is not intended to replace a real life consultant, but it’s an easy way for your clients to get a refresher on the lessons you’ve already taught them, and make their learning go even further.
I decided to get into the coaching module and check it out. You can get to coaching modules one of two ways. You can either search “coaching” and a bunch of different coaching applications will pop up, or you can search by developmental need and see whatever coaching applications are available to fit that need.
There is an introduction video you can watch that teaches you how to use the ThinkWise e-Coaching System. I happened to be in extreme “P” mode, so I skipped over the training video and dove right into the first module that caught my eye.
I wanted to think like a coach, so I tried a demo that would teach me how to coach someone to improve in a particular area. (there are also demos you can use for self-improvement.)
The first one I tried was titled, “Coaching Someone to Use Their Best Influencing Style.”
There was actually a digital person leading the class (which I found pretty cool) and I could just click through the sections at my own pace, diving deeper into areas where I wanted more assistance, and glossing over other areas where I felt competent discussing the information.
The application had a Coaching Guide, a Worksheet, and even an Example Worksheet (shown below) I could use if I got stuck while working with my client.
The application also provided helpful tips to get me through the coaching lesson – for example, it told me I should plan on my client discussion lasting up to one hour so I could gauge how much time I spent talking about each subject in the program. Finally, I was able to add this coaching module to my favorites, so I could reference again if need be.
I thought the e-coaching was a great supplement to whatever a coach is already doing with a client, and would recommend it as a feature.
Tomorrow is my last installment around the MBTI Thinkbox and I will be discussing customization. See you then!
