Looking Ahead - 10 Industry Predictions for 2010
posted by agammy
I realize I’ve had the MBTI on the brain lately, so I’d like to take a step back and talk about a subject that impacts us all - the industry. Because, no matter how skilled we are at administering our assessments, if the training industry is tanking, we need to know about it and be ready to react.
Fortunately, according to this article from trainingindustry.com, things could be looking up in 2010. The total spending is expected to increase 6-8% (following the 20% drop in 2009) and training outsourcing is also expected to increase - by 2-4% - which is great news for consultants.
Other key predictions:
Learning portals will become the next big training technology solution (which is great news for the MBTI ThinkBox) and project-based training initiatives will gain popularity. Community colleges are also expected to increase their use of corporate training services and products.
I think all of us ended 2009 with the sense that 2010 HAD to be better, and I am really excited to see that optimism spreading. If 2009 was a challenging year for your business, my advice to you is this - pay attention to trend reports from credible sources, and brainstorm ways your offerings can meet the changing needs of the market. Conditions may be improving, but that’s no reason to sit back, kick off your shoes, and wait for the engagements to come to you. Hit the pavement, look for networking opportunities, and continue to reach out to your customer base, listen to their needs, and offer solutions that resonnate with their pain points. And BE ENCOURAGED - the market may be turning around.
