Earn CEU credit with MBTI® and CPI® Certification

posted by agammy

Based on a Net Imperative article outlining industry trends and predictions, I am expecting the number of MBTI® and CPI® Certified practitioners to increase in 2010 and beyond. This is great news for those interested in expanding the reach and influence of the two assessments, and it is good news for practitioners looking to work with like-minded and like-educated people. (However, it does mean there could be more competition for Independent Consultants!)

Why do I think that Certification will be more popular over the next year?

Two reasons.

Apparently, when the economy is down, people begin to care more about experiential training and the quality of their experience at work (since they can’t count on more money for encouragement). They also involve themselves with longer and more recognized continuing education programs, so when things do turn around, they are ready to launch themselves forward.

CPP’s certification programs are helpful in that regard because they offer CEU credit, and offer a great experience as well, so people can have fun and increase their motivation, while earning units for their resumes.

It makes a lot of sense that uncertain economic times prompt job-seekers and currently disengaged members of the workforce to seek out continuing education programs.  If I were looking to “up” my dollar-worth, but couldn’t return to school or leave my job, I would be looking for ways to gain recognized accreditation in something as well.

If you are currently educationally eligible to purchase assessments, but want to compete more effectively with other practitioners, it might be worth it to look into certification. Even if your interests lie outside of assessment practice, maybe you want to look into a coaching credential, or something along those lines, to make sure you can continue to compete.

I agree that more companies are looking for differentiation in their training and development opportunities. Providers with master’s practitioner certification is one of those extra credentials. It is unfortunate that MBTI work isn’t considered toward the practical experience for the master’s practitioner certification. It is like starting over!

kaymcnew: I agree 100%. I recently decided to go back and finish college after 40 years, no credit for those years of running a business, helping people make a living, being a productive citizen.
Why tell one person you’re fine and only need twenty hours of additional credit and another 40? How does anyone know what value has been created by the one needing 20 hours vs. the one deemed to need 40? I’m half way there and have mixed emotions about moving forward.
